Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Phonics Interventions
Primary School | Term-time only
PART TIME HOURS - 9am-12pm MONDAY TO FRIDAY
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our friendly primary school team, with a particular focus on delivering high-quality phonics interventions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about early reading and supporting children to build strong foundations in literacy.
About the Role
Working closely with the class teachers and SENCo, you will support pupils across EYFS and KS1, delivering targeted phonics and early reading interventions to individuals and small groups. The role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of systematic phonics and enjoys helping children gain confidence and independence as readers.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver structured phonics interventions in line with the school’s chosen phonics programme
• Support pupils who require additional help to secure early reading and spelling skills
• Reinforce classroom learning through targeted follow-up activities
• Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
• Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and promote positive behaviour for learning
• Work as part of a collaborative and supportive school team
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
• Experience working with children in a primary school, ideally EYFS or KS1
• A good understanding of phonics and early reading development
• Confidence delivering interventions to small groups or 1:1
• A patient, caring and encouraging approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A commitment to inclusion and high expectations for all learners
Training or experience with a recognised phonics programme (e.g. Letters and Sounds or a DfE-approved scheme) would be an advantage, but is not essential.
We Offer:
• A welcoming and supportive school community
• Opportunities for training and professional development
• The chance to make a real difference to children’s learning outcomes
• A rewarding role within a committed and caring team
