Head of Religious Education

This role is a maternity cover position and will continue until the substantive post-holder returns from leave. While the exact end date is not yet confirmed, it is expected to be within the 2025–26 academic year. Adequate notice will be provided.

Oasis Academy Brightstowe is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Head of Religious Education to join us on a maternity cover basis starting September 2025.

The Role

We are looking for an exceptional teacher and leader to take on the role of Head of Religious Education (Maternity Cover). This is an exciting opportunity to lead a passionate team and make a meaningful impact during the 2025–26 academic year. You will:

  • Lead and manage the Religious Education department, maintaining high standards and continuity during the maternity leave period.
  • Teach RE across Key Stages 3 and 4, fostering deep understanding of worldviews, ethics, and belief systems.
  • Contribute to the wider Humanities faculty, supporting interdisciplinary projects and shared planning.
  • Engage in whole-school life and support the Academy’s inclusive, values-led culture.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has strong subject knowledge and experience teaching Religious Education.
  • Can take on departmental leadership, even in a temporary role, and maintain high expectations.
  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with a commitment to inclusive and reflective teaching.
  • Can collaborate with Humanities colleagues and contribute to a cohesive faculty vision.
  • Brings creativity, compassion, and professionalism to all aspects of school life.
