As a Level 3 Teaching Assistant at Oasis Academy Fir Vale, you will work under the guidance of teaching and senior staff to deliver targeted learning, care and support programmes that enable pupils to access learning and achieve their full potential. You will play a key role in supporting children with SEND and those who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL), helping them develop the confidence, skills and independence needed to succeed both in school and beyond.
What You'll Do
Supporting Pupils
- Build positive, respectful relationships with pupils, acting as a trusted role model and promoting high expectations.
- Provide targeted support for pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, EHCPs and additional learning needs.
- Support pupils' safety, wellbeing, personal care needs and emotional development.
- Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils can fully access learning opportunities.
- Support the implementation of IEPs, EHCPs, Behaviour Plans and personalised learning programmes.
- Deliver structured interventions and learning activities to address individual needs.
- Monitor, assess, record and report on pupil achievement, progress and development.
- Encourage independence, resilience, self-esteem and positive attitudes to learning.
- Share effective EAL strategies and approaches with colleagues to improve pupil outcomes.
- Provide feedback to pupils and contribute to discussions with parents, teachers and external agencies regarding progress.
Supporting Teaching and Learning
- Work in partnership with teachers to deliver engaging and effective learning experiences.
- Prepare, maintain and organise teaching materials, resources and classroom environments.
- Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning needs and learning styles.
- Support pupils in literacy, numeracy, language development and wider curriculum activities.
- Monitor pupil participation and understanding, providing detailed feedback to teachers.
- Support assessment activities, administer routine tests and contribute to pupil reports.
- Promote the effective use of ICT and digital technology to enhance learning.
- Maintain a purposeful, positive and well-organised learning environment.
- Create and maintain attractive classroom displays that celebrate pupil achievement.
- Undertake occasional cover supervision and provide ad-hoc classroom cover when required.
Working with Families and Professionals
- Establish positive relationships with parents and carers, supporting strong home-school partnerships.
- Work collaboratively with external agencies and specialist professionals to support pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Support parents in understanding their child's progress, development and next steps.
- Liaise effectively with educational psychologists, health professionals, peripatetic services and other support partners.
Supporting the Wider School Community
- Contribute positively to the ethos, vision and values of Oasis Academy Fir Vale.
- Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and enrichment activities.
- Accompany pupils on trips and visits, taking responsibility for groups under the supervision of a teacher.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions and training opportunities.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding, child protection, confidentiality, health and safety, and data protection requirements.
- Continually develop and improve personal practice through reflection, training and performance management.

What We're Looking For
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Experience supporting teaching and learning within a primary school setting.
- Experience working with pupils with SEND, EAL and additional learning needs.
- A strong understanding of inclusive practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning.
- Confidence in using ICT to support teaching, learning and assessment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build productive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and external professionals.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to respond flexibly to the needs of the school.
